THOUGHTS FOR FOOD

A Food Pyramid
''Give us this day our daily bread'', most people's favourite line in the Lord's prayer. But isn't that the reason we wake up every morning and go to work? Think about it. The reason people take that extra job, work extra hours, to get that extra money... Isn't it the reason for corruption? Why do people try to steal money? (hehehe) Food! Food! Food! Food! All living things can't do without it.
So if that is established, that apart from clothing and shelter, most of our lives revolves around food, How then do we create a balance? How can we organize our lives in such a way that we can have time for other things apart from searching for food? How can we solve the problem of hunger and malnutrition in the world? How can we get the cost of food down? How do we preserve our food to make it more healthy and replenishing to us?
Many questions huh? Even though I know I might not have all the answers, I think I can try a bit. Let me tell you what I think; Food is good, really good, but it's even better when eaten in moderation. Obesity is one of the highest killers of people in the world today. It is also a major cause of high blood pressure and heart attacks. We all have a great appetite, but as the saying goes ''too much of everything is bad''. Don't be a glutton, contain your appetite.

So many centuries ago, before the rise of civilization, before Walmart, eBay, and community markets, the early men lived. And they survived on this earth, How did they solve the food problem? They grew what they ate. We all need to start getting our farming boots on! Man is made to be domestic, God designed the world in such a way that the things he told us to eat have in their fruits or stems that can be propagated or suckers that can be planted to ensure continuity. Get some loamy soil to your backyard and starting planting some of the greens you need. You don't have to buy everything from the market. The cost of food is really high because, there are only a few people making food for us. If all hands are put on the hoe and cutlass, we'd see a great difference. Governments need to invest greatly in the Agricultural sector because, isn't it obvious? Without food we'd all die. So why play with something that important to our existence on earth?
Dieticians and Nutrition experts will tell you; eating a balanced diet is very important to ensure a healthy and disease free life. What is a balanced diet? A food containing an ample amount of the 6 classes of food. Many people eat most of the classes of food in excess, neglecting the important vitamins and minerals we need, and that's the reason we fall sick. Try to balance your food, and also avoid waste. On June 5th, World Environment day was centered on food wastage, and it became obvious that we waste many trillion tonnes of food each year yet we complain of global hunger. Don't add that extra spoon to the plate if you can't finish.
I think that is it, above all learn to share your food and don't be greedy (Lol). There's love in sharing. Eat healthy, eat wise, eat green; Happy World Food day.
